HIGHLIGHTED NEWS
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has raised its GDP growth forecast for Vietnam for 2026 from 7.2% to 7.8%—the highest among major Southeast Asian economies—and increased its 2027 projection from 7% to 7.6%. This growth outlook is supported by the manufacturing sector, domestic demand, public investment, and foreign direct investment (FDI). However, the ADB also raised its inflation forecast for 2026 from 4% to 4.3%, citing rapid credit growth, a weakening external balance, and rising price pressures.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has directed the full disbursement of allocated funds for key transport projects and ordered the reallocation of capital from projects with slow disbursement to those with better absorption capacity. Although over VND 255 trillion was allocated to these projects for 2026, only VND 95.4 trillion—equivalent to 38% of the plan—had been disbursed by the end of August. The Deputy Prime Minister also mandated that schedules not be delayed without valid, objective reasons and emphasized that disbursement performance would serve as a key criterion for capital allocation in subsequent years.
TRADING STRATEGY
The stock market underwent a downward correction, closing at 1,801.65 points with liquidity falling below the 20-session average. Although the VN-Index posted early gains, cautious sentiment quickly triggered renewed selling pressure, particularly affecting stocks in the VN30, Financial Services, Real Estate, Technology, and Industrial Goods & Services sectors. Conversely, the Retail, Banking, and Chemicals sectors continued to attract capital flows and support the broader index. Foreign investors increased the scale of their net selling. The VN-Index continues to exhibit mixed fluctuations and market divergence around the solid support zone of 1,780–1,800 points. However, index volatility remains largely driven by specific large-cap stocks within the VN30 group. The market is likely to continue trading sideways within a wide range in upcoming sessions as it consolidates and stabilizes its trend.
Today, the VN-Index may fluctuate within the 1,785–1,815 point range. Short-term investors might consider concentrating their portfolios and prioritizing profit optimization, given the tendency for short-term capital flows to weaken. Meanwhile, medium- and long-term investors could continue holding stocks with promising business growth prospects for the second half of 2026.
